Lavenham
10 minutes drive considered to be Britain’s best preserved medieval village. Famous for its fine timber-framed buildings and beautiful church, built on the success of the wool trade, makes it a fascinating place to explore today. Plenty of tea shops! The Guild Hall and Little Hall are both worth seeing.
Long Melford
10 minutes drive. Former medieval wool town. Is the country’s longest village 16th Century Melford Hall is National Trust, and Kentwell Hall is renowned for its Tudor re-creations. There are 2 large antique centres here. A few good walks. A beautiful church.
Sudbury
10 minute drive Gainsborough’s House museum. All about the artist Thomas Gainsborough (1727-88). The meadows in Sudbury are lovely for a walk. River Stour boating www.riverstourtrust.org boating and kayaking.
Bury St Edmunds
15 minute drive. Cathedral town, excellent shopping, Greene King Brewery, Cathedral and Abbey gardens, market on Saturdays.
Hollow Trees Farm, Semer
20 minutes drive. For children there is an exciting farm trail, wonderful farm shop and café. When you go through Monks Eleigh, Brett Gallery IP7 7AY is worth a look with lots of Suffolk talent artists, pottery and jewellery.
Flatford Mill
40 minutes drive. Experience the views that inspired Constable’s paintings especially the Hay Wain view. Dedham Vale walks. Munnings Art Museum Castle Hill Dedham a collection of works by Sir Alfred Munnings.
Suffolk Coast : Southwold
1hr30min drive. seaside town with a pier, independent shops and galleries, a walk to Walberswick, fish and chips.
Aldeburgh
1hr 15 mins drive. Seaside town, multiple galleries and iconic sculptures and possibly the best fish and chips in the country!
